A post on a comment

It's one of those days when you are randomly checking Facebook, you see a comment, not on Facebook but your blog that someone was having coffee in another part of the world and that they were talking about you. A wee mom and her sweet son, who also happens to be a blogger buddy are sitting in a corner Cafe in Philippines and of all things, they are talking about me and my blog. The feeling is beyond priceless.

I think of all the odd times that we cross people's minds - Space and time inconsequential. That's how it happens when one starts blogging and posting. At different times we are thought of with fondness, I'd like to think that way. I also wonder how the image of my posts translate in their minds. What if they don't know my face - will they imagine me through my words or my posts' titles. What are the building blocks of me in their minds. I value those thoughts. That a blogger friend and his sweet mom were talking of me was communicated to me but there are many others who don't say it but still smile and think. A stray naughty comment here and a deep insightful comment there - How am I perceived? As a naughty one or as a thoughtful one. Perhaps a blend or perhaps a delirious mixture that is difficult to digest. But then do we digest all those images of words that form a personality. We sip. We take in the taste. And then forget until we find a part of that taste in ourselves.

Sometimes I think of all the blogs that I visit and wonder how much of it I sip and how much of it I savour. Do I savour all that I taste and sip or do I just sip and find the taste unpalatable. Even when I say 'unpalatable,' I remember that it was unpalatable - the bitterness is also a memory. I recently read on one of those random Facebook posters that gets circulated - "We don't miss people, we only miss the memories of time spent with people." Well, I wondered how can we miss memories without thinking of the people! The memory of the touch is as good as the touch itself. Maybe I'm just writing things on a whim. Once in a while I like doing that - moving in disconnected tangents.

When I see a fiddle/violin, I don't have to coerce myself - my thoughts on the symbol of a violin is Steve who blogs at The Fourth Dimension. His comments always make me smile and happy. I haven't met him but I know that when he comments, he thinks of me and my peace. And travel always makes me think of that blogger who was discussing me with his lovely mom. AJ Poliquit's tales of travel in The Transcendental Tourist always amaze me and leaves me with a strong yearning to back my bags which, of course, I cannot do at a very short notice! And the word Mohican and word play always stands for Brian Miller and his WayStationOne.

I firmly like to believe that these fond thoughts of me that cross in your mind at different times of the day/month/year give me a shield of well-being and happiness. And likewise you cross my mind as well. Next time, you feel a sense of being watched, you crossed my mind.

So, did I cross your mind today? Well, you did!

  1. Sweet! The thought of that Mom and her son. :)
I love how your mind works, Sus...moving supposedly aimlessly (or so you say!) and yet managing to strike so deep. And yes, in Willie's words, you are always on my mind! ♥

  3. Hu-wow, a little comment inspires a post! We really shouldn't underestimate the power of our words. :)

In truth, it was not the first time my mom had brought your name up in our conversations (every single time with fondness, rest assured). She's been reading you for quite some time. Of course she already knows how you look, thanks to Facebook. But what she remembers about you are your thoughts, your musings, your words, your take on things that matter to you because that's what she reads in your blog and in your comments in mine. Not a big fan of skimming and scanning, she "savours" more than just "sips."

Her thoughts of you are unencumbered by superficial noise, e.g. physical features, accent, fashion choices. That's why she said you're part of India's intelligentsia (her perception of you which I share, by the way). She knows you through the ideas you choose to share. Those are her (and my) "building blocks" of you.

Oh, and love the song. You may be out of my sight, but you're not out of my mind. :)

    1. Thanks a lot Age for the lovely comment. This post owes to you and the conversation with you sweet ma. I have always admired and appreciated her taste for life. At her age, her thirst for adventure is just overwhelming to me. That age is just a number is what she defines for me!

And I don't know whether I'm worthy of her adulation. I just hope I strive.

      Joy always :)

  5. Agree with you Susan, though we may not meet each other, the relationship is sealed as bloggers. They have impacted us so much on our minds by their comments that we relate to them by their words.

  6. It's nice that your friend let you know she was thinking of you. I often think of my blog friends, including you. When you don't write, I wonder why, sometimes your thoughts and ideas stay with me too. It's impossible to read someone's words and not have them leave at least a little mark.
Please know, when I think of you, I do so fondly.

    1. It was a 'he,' Myrna, a very talented travel and life blogger. And yes, we cross each other's minds at very odd times. I might see something and that might remind me of your once-upon-a-time post and subsequently I also might think of you and how you were getting on with Leroy and your grandson.

And I think of you with much affection and love, dear Myrna.

  7. Is it called getting recognition. Also imp is to know someone thinks\likes about what we write. Our words become a connection point. And with the comments we tend to know more about them.

    1. It's not about recognition alone, it's the thought that we are being thought of fondly. And yes, comments are a way to feel the pulse.

  8. Such a lovely post! :) Eventhough I have seen you, I am able to form an image of you through the words in your blog. I do agree that it is a wonderful feeling when someone says that he/she remembers you for what you write. I am sure as fellow bloggers, we miss some people's posts when they don't blog and wonder what has happened, why do they not blog and other things. Your posts are always a breath of fresh air and a very tasty sip of coffee. <3 :)

  10. Believe me Susan, I have now more friends than I had at any point of time in my life and by that I imply the blog friends. In last six months I saw some of the faces and it is indeed a great feeling when someone in far off land talks about your blog and in my case was fortunate to enjoy lunch with one of them on my visit:)So these comments are a treasure !!
